“Take-home experiences” are a growing trend

From Caribbean cruises and rain-forest excursions to fantasy baseball camps, the market for selling experiences is a growth market. People love to live their dreams, even when it’s make-believe.

The businesses offering these experiences have found a way to add more value for their customers:  they are recording and packaging the event with photos and videos so that they can be re-lived over and over.

Here’s a case where a physical copy of content is often more profitable than something online. People are more likely to pay for a memory that they can touch and take home, while the experience is still fresh in their mind.

Take-home digital experiences are challenging to produce because they can’t be easily outsourced. Content must be produced and published near real-time, while at the same time looking polished and professional. Customers that pay thousands of dollars for their experience expect more than a “home-made” DVD.
