Rimage Disc Publishing and DISCO Heat Up the Show Floor at HIMSS

Rimage supports Digital Secure Copy as part of a bunnled hardware and software solution - 02/26/2008
ORLANDO, Fla. (HIMSS) - Feb. 26, 2008 - Rimage Corporation (Nasdaq: RIMG), the industry-leading provider of on-demand digital publishing systems, along with digital records management and DICOM solutions partner Data Distributing, will showcase the new DISCO Digital Secure Copy software package at the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference, Feb. 24 through Feb. 28 in Orlando, Fla.

Already a key player in radiology and PACS output, Rimage is now the platform of choice for facilities seeking an easier, more automated medical records workflow. Along with Data Distributing's DISCO, a fully integrated, chart copy solution used for release of information fulfillment, the Rimage hardware system interfaces with the hospital network, allowing medical records professionals to provide third party requestors with digital chart copies in lieu of expensive and cumbersome paper chart copies.

"Similar to the transition from film to digital imaging in radiology, the move to electronic medical records is a work-in-progress," said Robert Martinez, vice president of medical sales for Rimage. "However, with solutions like DISCO, facilities are realizing that Rimage systems aren't just for PACS integration anymore."

Data Distributing's DISCO is application software that interfaces with existing electronic medical records (EMR) systems, hospital information systems (HIS) and paper-based records systems to provide seamless HL7 interpretation and fully automatic chart copy fulfillment. Whether patient records need to be transferred to another hospital, a government agency, an insurance provider or legal representatives, DISCO helps save time and money by reducing the number of staff required to manage chart copies.

"Most large organizations employ nearly a dozen people to manage patient records and run the chart copying workflow," said Nancy Fisher, president and CEO of Data Distributing. "With DISCO, a records manager decides which information needs to be outputted - specific lab reports, images and other specialty information - before burning the records to disc. DISCO makes chart copying workflows so much more efficient that the solution pays for itself in months or weeks, not years."

With legislative mandates for electronic patient records on the horizon, Rimage and Data Distributing are making it easier than ever for medical facilities to store and distribute patient information electronically. "There is nothing else out there like this," Martinez said. "Many hospitals are beginning to outsource chart copying services for a fee, but DISCO allows them to keep digital chart copying in-house, giving health care providers an added source of revenue and more control over patient records."

Data Distributing will demonstrate the DISCO (Digital Secure Copy) software suite in booth #1981 at HIMSS. To find out more about DISCO and other disc-based output solutions for the medical market, visit www.rimage.com/medical.
