Rimage Helps JVISDA Turn Warehouse of Multimedia Content into On-Demand Virtual Library

Visual training product provider streamlines CD/DVD customer fulfillment with Rimage digital publishing solution; cuts labor costs by nearly 100 perce - 03/20/2007
Minneapolis, MN - Rimage Corporation (Nasdaq: RIMG) today announced the Joint Visual Information Services Distribution Activity (JVISDA), a visual information and multimedia training product provider for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), has transformed its customer fulfillment process from a warehouse of multimedia content into an on-demand virtual library with help from Rimage.

The DOD relies on JVISDA to reproduce and distribute visual information and other multimedia training products to U.S. Forces worldwide. JVISDA maintains a customer Web site containing the searchable listing and descriptions of thousands of audiovisual productions and interactive multimedia instruction products used by the DOD.

In the past, JVISDA stored a large amount of media in VHS format, which took up substantial inventory space. Since converting many of its titles to a digital format, JVISDA has streamlined its DVD and CD order, production and shipping process with help from a Rimage digital publishing solution and GTGI's NetDisc Production Software. As a result, JVISDA has drastically cut labor and shipping costs associated with the operation.

"An order used to be touched by three or four people before it went out the door ? now it touches one person," said Vincent Rotell, deputy director for JVISDA. "We've essentially cut labor associated with the operation by nearly 100 percent. The transition to Rimage disc publishing and NetDisc has been a complete success."

In addition, JVISDA's ability to transform a warehouse of multimedia content into a streamlined, on-demand virtual library has cut inventory and improved order turnaround. Previously, JVISDA's order fulfillment process took upwards of four weeks. Now, JVISDA sees nearly 95 percent of its products shipped within two days of the original order.

"Organizations like JVISDA that distribute large volumes of digital content to customers are quickly recognizing the benefits of combining the power of Rimage digital publishing and the Web to create on-demand, virtual libraries," said Manny Almeida, chief operating officer for Rimage. "In addition to delivering enhanced customer service through more efficient order fulfillment, many of our customers are experiencing complete return on their digital publishing investments within months through increased revenue and reduced labor and shipping costs."
