Rimage Video Protect Anti-Rip Technology Debuts at NAB

New copy management application helps content producers combat unauthorized duplication - 04/16/2007
LAS VEGAS - April 16, 2007 Rimage Corporation (Nasdaq: RIMG) today announced it is launching its exclusive Rimage Video Protect(tm) copy management application at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2007 conference.

When digital content must be guarded against inappropriate copying, Rimage customers can trust Rimage Video Protect to provide a solid barrier against unauthorized copying. This new feature is built into the Rimage software suite, ensuring seamless execution and streamlined workflow when using QuickDisc(tm) or Rimage Rapid API(tm) authoring operations. Pre-release content, screeners and on-demand production DVDs can now be protected on-the-fly using Rimage Video Protect on a Rimage digital publishing system.

"With Rimage Video Protect, our customers can protect their sizeable investments in original content," said Dave Suden, chief technical officer for Rimage. "This exclusive technology is highly desired by our customers in the digital content production and distribution marketplace, and we believe it delivers a stronger and more compatible anti-rip solution than others on the market."

Rimage Video Protect inhibits ripping and disc copying software, not playback devices, from performing as intended, ensuring excellent playback compatibility. The seamless integration of Rimage Video Protect into the Rimage system allows content producers to protect revenue and distribution plans without changing workflow processes or compromising deadlines.

As a passive software solution, Rimage Video Protect encapsulates data files on a DVD disc, causing access to the content by popular ripping programs to be stopped. The original media content is not modified; rather, copy controls are written in areas of the disc that are not read during playback.

Independent test labs have verified that Rimage Video Protect achieves a very high level of playback compatibility and that it does not install software or modify users computers.

"Copy-controlled discs are designed to provide an effective ?speed bump' against unauthorized duplication," said Suden. "While no anti-rip application is 100 percent effective, Rimage Video Protect sets a high standard for protection against multiple ripping tools and stops the vast majority of inappropriate copying."

Rimage Video Protect is a completely integrated, turnkey application that will be available with Rimage software packages integrated in the Producer III series and 5100/5300 series digital publishing products beginning in June 2007.
